Newcastle United return to action on Sunday when they face top four rivals Tottenham.

The two sides are separated by just three points as things stand, but with a game in-hand, Newcastle know they can take full control of a Champions League spot with a win this weekend. In stark contrast, defeat would allow Spurs to close in on Eddie Howe’s men and rediscover their confidence heading into the final run-in.

Both Newcastle and Tottenham lost last weekend, adding even more intrigue to the clash, though it’s true that in Spurs’ case, there is much more concern, with Christian Stellini struggling to turn the ship around following Antonio Conte’s departure.

As is often the case at this time of year, Stellini and Tottenham are not helped by a number of injuries, with up to six players out of this clash, with another player suspended. Lucas Moura is the player who will miss out through suspension, while Clement Lenglet is out with a muscular injury.

Emerson Royal is nursing a knee problem, as is Rodrigo Bentancur. Ryan Sessegnon has a hamstring issue, and Yves Bissouma is out with an ankle problem. Ben Davies is the only injured player who could yet feature, but the Welshman is a major doubt with a hamstring issue.

Speaking about Bissouma and Davies last week, Spurs boss Stellini said: “It’s a question for the doctor. They are not working with us. They are working alone. We are pushing and the doctor are trying to do their best to have them without risk as soon as possible, but it’s not a question for me, I don’t have a perfect answer.”
