Newcastle United star Joelinton has linked up with the Brazil squad after receiving his first-ever call-up.

The 26-year-old was already back in Brazil when, less than an hour before the Magpies kicked off against Chelsea on the final day of the Premier League season, Ramon Menezes named his 23-man squad.

“When he said my name, I just cried. It’s a feeling of pride, of seeing that his effort is being seen,” Joelinton said last month.

“There’s a movie in my head, of everything I’ve ever lived. Every effort, dedication and every fight was worth it. And that. Proud of everything I’ve been through, what I’ve grown and learned.

“Leaving Alianca, being able to arrive in Europe and now in the Brazilian national team... It’s a moment you dream of, but you don’t know you’ll come true.”

Joelinton has been training with hometown club Recife Sport as a way of keeping fit and preparing for what could be his inaugural senior international debut. Brazil take on Guinea in Spain on Saturday, June 17 before facing Senegal in Portugal on Tuesday, June 20.
