Sandro Tonali jetted into Tyneside today after his £55million move from AC Milan to Newcastle United.

The wait is finally over. Sandro Tonali, Newcastle United’s new £55million midfielder, has touched down on Tyneside.

Around two weeks after the player agreed terms on an initial five-year deal at the club, the 23-year-old Italian under-21 skipper has arrived in the city to complete transfer formalities.

And NewcastleWorld were there to see the player as he got used to his new surrounds, at the club’s transformed Benton training base.

Tonali flew direct from Milan, where he spent the last three years playing for his boyhood heroes, the Rossoneri, into Newcastle’s private airport to the north of the city at around 4pm on Wednesday. He was soon taken around the area, stopping off in Darras Hall on the house hunt, where he was spotted by some eagle-eyed fans, before heading to the club’s North Tyneside training base for his first shot in a black and white shirt - and a look around the newly-refurbished Darsley Park site.

It’s expected the player’s eagerly-awaited first interview will be posted online by the club in the next 24 hours, as well more photo and video content, as the player visits St James’ Park for the first time.

Tonali is the Magpies’ second major signing of the summer so far, coming after the capture of Yankuba Minteh, who was immediately sent out on loan to Eredivisie champions and United Champions League rivals Feyenoord.

Newcastle’s players return to pre-season training at the end of the week, however, Tonali is not expected to play a part in the early stages of the summer, having only recently returned from international duty at the under-21 Euros, where he captained Italy.
