West Ham United are set to complete the signing of Nice defender Jean Clair-Todibo.

The Hammers first agreed to sign the 24-year-old last month but talks stalled as he held out for a move to Juventus. But with the Italian giants unable to reach an agreement, Julen Lopetegui’s side have managed to convince Todibo to move to England following fresh talks in the last 24 hours.

Todibo is flying to London today to undergo his medical and discuss personal terms. The deal is an initial season-long loan with an option to buy for £35million. Juventus remain interested in Todibo and are still trying to do a deal but time is rapidly running out.

Manchester United considered a move for Tobido earlier this summer but the two clubs agreed not to transfer players between each other to ensure they can both play in the same UEFA competition. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group holds a stake in both teams.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Ratcliffe said: “They [UEFA] have said we [Nice] can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United. But that’s not fair on the player, and I don’t see what that achieves.”

Meanwhile, it was reported by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook last month that Newcastle United had held talks with Todibo following Paul Mitchell’s arrival as sporting director but a move never appeared likely.

The former Barcelona man was of interest to Newcastle last summer as scouts watched him during Nice’s friendlies against Villarreal and Fiorentina at St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s side are in the market for a centre-back and are currently in talks with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi.
