Newcastle United are locked in negotiations for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace chairman and minority owner Steve Parish has admitted Newcastle United face rival interest for Marc Guehi.

Toon chiefs have failed four times in recent days to sign the England international. The most recent bid is understood to be worth around £65million - but Palace are playing hardball.

It is unclear how much the Eagles value Guehi or whether the deal’s structure remains the key obstacle. But Newcastle are still at the table and view the 24-year-old as their No.1 transfer target.

However, Palace chief Parish has revealed other clubs have enquired about Guehi this summer. Liverpool and Manchester United have previously been linked with the defender.

“Marc is a great player,” he told talkSPORT. “We have to accept that we’re often not a destination, we’re somewhere you travel through. If we get the right bids for players, in the right order, we need to look at them.

“We haven’t got that. If we get that, things may change. Right now, Marc is a Palace player and I’m sure he’ll be on the team sheet today (against Brentford).

“We’re always very respectful when we get a bid for a player. Paul Mitchell is somebody I have an incredible amount of time for. I’ve known him for a long time and he’s been very good to me in football.

“We have a good relationship. He and I have had a chat about this. Inevitably, the agents are involved and have a point of view. They’re decent guys. I think Dougie (Freedman) has had various chats with them. We’ve spoken to other clubs that have expressed interest as well - so it’s a collective (effort). But yes, I have been involved.”
