Hollywood actor Adam Sandler was bizarrely snapped at Newcastle United’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Monday evening.

The Happy Gilmore star was sampling Premier League action just days after being snubbed for an Oscar nomination. Despite being one of the most recognised faces in Hollywood, the 57-year-old has never received an Academy Award nomination throughout his 35-year career.

Sandler was pictured letting off some cool at Stamford Bridge as Newcastle slumped to a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea. As a neutral, he was treated to an entertaining game between two sides eyeing a late push for a European spot.

The US superstar would have certainly left the ground happier than the 3,000 Geordies who trekked to the capital to watch their team lose for the ninth time on the road this season. Speaking to Tribal Football, Sandler opened up about how he ended up watching the Premier League clash.

"My friend opened the newspaper and saw an ad for the game,” the actor revealed. "He said 'do you want to go to a soccer game?' I said, 'yeah that's a great idea, I've never been to one'.

"So we all went there and they were really nice, we were at Fulham v Chelsea and it was at an old-style venue (Craven Cottage). We sat in the Chelsea section and the tunes were rocking! I couldn't believe how great everyone was singing, on key.

"It was rough men singing gently," added Sandler. "It was an excellent experience; I want to learn more and more. I kept asking questions, 'how many teams are in the league?', 'how many games?', until I was told to shut up!"
