Yoane Wissa makes his feelings clear on Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle with 'signing' claim

Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 following goals from Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa.

Yoane Wissa hailed boss Matthias Jaissle as Newcastle United’s ‘signing of the summer’ following the 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

Jaissle oversaw his first Premier League win as Magpies’ head coach, following up last weekend’s opening day draw at home to Liverpool with a victory in North London.

And it was Wissa who helped seal the three points. After Anthony Elanga opened the scoring near the hour mark, the DR Congo striker added an all-important second 10 minutes later.

Wissa scored what was only his second Premier League goal for United since joining from Brentford for £55million last summer after experiencing an injury-hit campaign.

"I am very happy, to be part of the team and part of the club,” Wissa told Sky Sports after the game. “The fans love their club and love the players and what they want is us to give them what we have. They never stopped singing or shouting so that is for them today.

"I am not injured and I feel confident now. I trust myself and I trust the manager and even though I didn't play last year I have trained a lot with the players and they know my movements.”

Newcastle came up against former midfielder Sandro Tonali at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, one of three key players sold in the summer alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.

The Magpies also replaced Eddie Howe with Jaissle, and Wissa has labelled the German the club’s ‘best signing so far’.

Wissa said: "Of course we lost so many players but the club worked well. It is challenging and we need players to step up, like me for instance, I didn't play last year, and now I have a chance to play. So many players have to step up and enjoy the challenge and with the fans behind us nobody can stop us.

"Eddie Howe did a top job and the new manager [Matthias Jaissle] came with a new identity and that [first goal] is something we have been working on. Every part of the game we are really precise.

“He is a really dynamic manager, so we have to give everything and I think he is the best signing of Newcastle so far."
