Newcastle Wetherspoon pubs to broadcast Women’s Euro 2022 final as England Lionesses take on Germany
You can watch the Lionesses play at your nearest Wetherspoon
and live on Freeview channel 276
The popular low-price pub chain confirmed on Friday afternoon that its venues across the country will be showing the grand final when it kicks off at 5 pm on Sunday, July 31.
Wetherspoon pubs rarely show sports fixtures but are making the exception as the Lionesses prepare to take on rivals Germany to close what has been an astounding tournament for Sarina Wiegman’s women.
The final is being shown on BBC, rather than the likes of Sky Sports and BT Sport, which is why the chain is able to show the match.
Other locations where Geordies can watch the game in Newcastle include the large screen at Central Park, where free tickets must be reserved beforehand, and NE1's Summer in the City pop-up at the Old Eldon Square.
Many independent pubs and bars across Tyneside will also show the match.
Those wanting to watch England in a Wetherspoon have a wide choice of pubs across the region to pick from.
In the Newcastle city centre, there is The Quayside, The Mile Castle, The Keel Row and The Five Swans.
There's also The High Main in Byker and The Job Bulman in Gosforth.
Just over the river, there's The Tilley Stone in Gateshead.
South Shields is home to The Wouldhave, Wallsend has The Ritz and Whitley Bay has The Fire Station.
