The day usually is the biggest day of celebrations to round off Armed Forces Week which aims to raise money and support for local veterans across the nation.

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday in June every year.

However celebrations and activities take place throughout Armed Forces Week which will run from Monday 20 June until Sunday 26 June this year.

What is Armed Forces Day?

Armed Forces Day is a chance for local people to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Why is it celebrated?

One of the reasons behind Armed Forces Day and week is to boost morale for troops and their families. It is a chance for families to come together and support one another.

The purpose of the event is to honour the contribution of the British Armed Forces, both past and present. It is a chance for families and community members to show that their service is not forgotten.

There have been many events taking place across the North East this week For example in Newcastle celebrations began on 20 June with a raising of the Armed Forces Day flag at the Civic Centre.

Altogether for Armed Forces Day

Date: 25 June

People from across the North East can join in on a fun filled day when local residents can get together with members of our Armed Forces Family to say thank you for their dedication and service to our city.

There will be Attractions and activities including military displays, fairground rides, competitions and much more.

The event will run from 11am to 3pm.

Armed Forces Day - Stanley

Date: 25 - 26 June

Stanley Armed Forces Day, will be hosting a family focused event celebrating the Armed Forces, including serving armed forces, cadets and veterans.

They will have as much of the armed forces present as possible, including local veterans organisations, charities and cadet forces.

In addition they will have displays, activities and armed forces themed entertainment.

As part of the event they will have a stage and pa system and will have entertainment on throughout the event.

The event will take place from 10am to 4pm.
