We asked AI engine Chat GPT to write a Sam Fender song
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a major talking point in recent months following the release of Chat GPT, an engine built to respond to any queries and reply in scarily accurate fashion.
The technology’s meteoric rise in recent times reminded us of North Shields' very own Sam Fender, who quickly went from playing small venues across the UK to selling out shows at St James’ Park and Finsbury Park in London as well as headlining major festivals such as Reading and Leeds. With fans loving Fender’s open, honest and heartfelt lyrics, is it possible for AI to replicate the North East singer songwriter?
The lyrics

Verse 1:
Another day of waking up
To a world that’s going wrong
They’re fighting wars, they’re building walls
While the innocent sing songs
Chorus:
So let’s tear down the fences
Let’s raise up our voices
Let’s build a world that’s worth living in
Where every soul rejoices
Verse 2:
The news is filled with tragedy
And it’s getting hard to breathe
The weight of it all is bearing down
And it’s hard to find reprieve
Chorus:
So let’s tear down the fences
Let’s raise up our voices
Let’s build a world that’s worth living in
Where every soul rejoices
Bridge:
It’s time to make a difference
To stand up and be heard
We’ll march in solidarity
Until every voice is heard
Chorus:
So let’s tear down the fences
Let’s raise up our voices
Let’s build a world that’s worth living in
Where every soul rejoices
Outro:
We’ll fight for what we know is right
And we won’t back down
We’ll build a world that’s worth living in
And we’ll wear our victory crown

The themes of feeling downtrodden in the current political landscape are all reminiscent of sonme Sam Fender songs, especially ‘Aye’ from 2021’s Seventeen Going Under while playing into the imagery of division in ‘White Privilege’ from the singer-songwriter’s debut album but the heart, lyrical specifics and personal moments from such a talented songwriter are clearly missing.
Does Sam Fender need to look over his shoulder to see the future coming to take his role as a songwriter? We don’t think so, although the results are far from terrible!
