‘Absolutely dominated’: Sam Fender fans rejoice as Spotify Wrapped 2022 launched

Sam Fender fans in the North East and across the globe have wasted no time in sharing their glee at seeing the North Shields star climbing to the top of their Spotify Wrapped 2022 lists as the streaming platform rolls out its annual end-of-year round-up.

Spotify had been teasing the arrival of the Wrapped feature this week with a hashtag on Twitter with users scrambling to predict which artist might be their top listened-to in 2022. This year, the Spotify Wrapped experience includes a Listening Personality analysis, as well as the usual top artists, number of minutes listened and that all-important Top 100 Songs playlist.

Sam Fender has a lot of dedicated fans and it's no surprise to see the 'Seventeen Going Under' singer topping the lists of many playlists, despite not releasing a whole lot of new music this year. Fender spent much of 2022 on the road playing shows across the globe, from the Utilita Arena twice over to his most recent sets in Australia, with last year's critically acclaimed sophomore album.

One Spotify user took to Twitter to write that Fender had "absolutely dominated" her year of listening, whilst another said "Fender goated" and "love you Sammy boy".

Another user shared their top artists, which included Harry Styles, The 1975, The Snuts and Lewis Capaldi alongside Fender and wrote, "some five-a-side team that".

Spotify gives users the chance to Tweet their top artist of the year as soon as they find out as a 'thank you' and, in doing so, users share their top listened to song by that singer. Whilst a number of Fender fans do love the big hits such as 'Hypersonic Missiles' and 'Will We Talk?', there's a lot of deep cuts being shared too. Some listeners have streamed 'Spice', 'Spit of You' and 'Mantra' more than any other track.

Explaining the new Listening Personality feature, Spotify said: “Your Listening Personality is a new feature that not only tells you about the music you listen to but what that says about your music taste—bringing a whole new layer of personalization and insight to the entire Wrapped experience. If you love personality tests—who doesn’t—you’ll love diving into the 16 possible listening personality types that we created for 2022 Wrapped.”
