The victim had been in the company of a man at an address, but as she sought to leave he followed her and carried out the attack on the playing field opposite Old Durham Road and Sundew Road in Beacon Lough, between 6 am and 7 am.

Following the incident, the victim made her way to Old Durham Road. At this point she spoke to a woman at the bus stop before making her way to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she reported to staff that she had been raped.

An investigation has been launched by Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Unit who have specialist officers supporting the victim and have been carrying out extensive enquiries since.

This has resulted in three men being arrested in relation to the incident. They have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

“I would ask that if you believe this to be you, please do come forward as you may be able to assist with the investigation.

“We would also ask anyone else who was in the area at the time and may have information which could help to also contact police.”
