Attendees arrived in black limousines and teenagers wore yellow ties with 'Gault 14' written on them in tribute as roads around the chapel were filled with mourners. Some also carried banners with images of the youngster in a moving display.

The 'diamond of a boy' lost his life in hospital last month after being stabbed in an alleged assault near Westmorland Road in Elswick. The teenager passed away on Tuesday, November 15, six days after the incident on Wednesday, November 9.

The tragedy sent shockwaves through the local community with flowers and artwork being left in mass in Elswick and vigils conducted. Over £7,500 was also raised for the family to help with funeral costs and to ease the burden of their grief.

The fundraiser was run by Vicky Tams on behalf of the family, who wrote in the description: "I'm trying to take a bit pressure off Dionne and her family by setting up this donation page see what we can raise to help Gave Gaulty the bestest send off ever. Come on guys dig deep anything is much appreciated."
