Perrie Edwards has opened up about her battle with self-confidence and revealed that bullies made her want to change her appearance.

The Little Mix singer, 29, from South Shields, admitted she hated her freckles growing up and once asked her mum for an acid peel to get rid of them.

Speaking in a new interview, Perrie said she received cruel comments from bullies about her looks, which is something she internalised.

"I hated my freckles. I was always quite poorly and anaemic, so I had dark circles under my eyes. I was really malnourished and skinny, and I had a big scar on my stomach from surgeries,” the 29-year-old told Grazia.

She continued: “I just hated everything. People used to bully me, and I think it was something that I internalised.

“Everyone was criticising me, and that made me criticise myself. I asked my mum if I could have an acid peel to get rid of my freckles."

The singer claims her confidence has come with age and she is now learning not to care about what others think.

Her fans have previously shown her love for embracing her freckles and scars in photos on Instagram.

In 2018, Perrie revealed that she no longer feels the need to hide her freckles in a post uploaded to social media.

She wrote: "Over the last couple of years, I’ve started to embrace them and don’t feel I need to hide them anymore. ‘Embrace your individuality. Love what you love without worrying about judgement’."

Perrie Edwards recently gave an update on her solo music career, saying she has "no set timeline" for when she’ll release something new.

It comes as Little Mix has been taking a hiatus following their Confetti Tour, which ended in May 2022.

The mother-of-one is planning her wedding to Liverpool FC star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The couple got engaged in June last year after six years together.

They welcomed their first child together in August 2021, a baby boy named Axel.
