Alan Shearer’s charity ball for the Alan Shearer Foundation took place on Saturday, March 27.  The event, which was held at Gateshead’s Hilton Hotel, raised money to support people with disabilities.

Former captain of Newcastle United turned TV pundit, Alan Shearer set up the Alan Shearer Centre in West Denton. The centre is described as “a highly specialist, respite, residential and social facility for people with complex disabilities and acute sensory impairments” on its website. Funds raised at the Alan Shearer Foundation balls go towards the centre.

The Alan Shearer Foundation Ball 2023 was a star-studded evening, with many famous faces in attendance. However it was North Shields music hero, Sam Fender that stole the show, debuting a brand-new look and a brand-new song.

Many musicians and singers have performed at the event over the years - but Newcastle United superfan Fender was the perfect choice to perform at the 2023 event.

Fender took to the stage to entertain the crowd of Alan Shearer’s family and friends, performing his biggest hits such as Seventeen Going Under, alongside his band.

Fender performed in a black and white top, while playing a black and white guitar - paying homage to Newcastle United’s home colours.

He also debuted a brand-new hairstyle, rocking a “mullet” look. He also took the audience by surprise by playing a brand-new song.

Videos of Fender’s performance on Saturday have been uploaded to social media, and fans have expressed excitement towards Fender’s new material and hairstyle, with one person writing: “Sam Fender, having a new song and a full on mullet is the best thing to happen to us”.

Alan Shearer himself posted a clip of Fender performing at the ball on Instagram, writing: “ Wow. What a great night. I think the 10th #alanshearerfoundation ball went well!!! Thanks so much @sam_fender you’re a superstar. £215k raised on the night and that’s £5.4 million now over the 10 years. Your generosity means so much. Thank you everyone.”
