A new-look version of The Hoppings opens again in Newcastle this week
It’s less than 48 hours until doors open at The Hoppings on Newcastle’s Town Moor for the 2022 event.
The popular funfair celebrates its 140th anniversary this year and returns to Tyneside for the first time since Covid-19.
It’s set to be a bumper edition of the event with new rides aplenty, added entertainement sites and better infrastructure.
The Hoppings opens on Friday, June 17 and will welcome guests up until Saturday, June 25.
Ahead of the grand opening, NewcastleWorld and LocalTV spoke to Ryan Crow, Director of Crow Events.
The Hoppings insider shared his excitement for the event’s return and new aspects that Geordies can look forward to.

1. “The public will be impressed"
“I think the public will be impressed with what’s going on. I’ve been away from the site for two years and you forget how big it is. The sheer size and the layout - they won’t be disappointed. It’s something the people of Newcastle have needed for a while now and it will be well received.”

2. Feast Street
“The team is currently installing the brand new food court area which will feature all kinds of speciality food Hoppings has never seen before.”

3. 65-metre tall rides
“We’ve got the biggest rides in the country here. We have two of the largest booster rides with the Starflight that stand at 65 metres tall,”

4. Giant wheel returns
“We have the giant wheel.”
