Beady-eyed shoppers on Northumberland Street last weekend might have noticed something afoot at the city's popular Primark store as Greggs products started to appear.

Fashion mannequins across the store saw sausage rolls, steak bakes and more popping up in their pockets and on their bags.

In Newcastle, you could be forgiven for thinking that is just a daily occurrence, but it was in fact part of a big Primark and Greggs collaboration.

Shoppers flocked to social media to share images of the strange occurrence, both in Newcastle and elsewhere, as the stunt hit other UK stores.

One Twitter user wrote: “Shoutout to whichever stone cold legend at Newcastle Primark has accidentally left a load of Greggs in the window display…”

Another said: “Just a typical day in newcastle of someone leaving their greggs sausage roll in the primark display for the third day running, very normal city.”

This morning, on Tuesday, February 8 both brands have confirmed what it all means.

An 11-piece Greggs themed clothing collection will hit Primark stores, including the one on Newcastle's Northumberland Street, on Saturday, February 19.

More details of the collection are set to be shared closer to release date.

Greggs and Primark also announced a Tasty By Greggs cafe.

The in-store shop will only be at the Primark in Birmingham however, meaning no additional Greggs in Newcastle quite yet.

Raymond Reynolds, Business Development Director at Greggs said: “Greggs clothing is something our customers have continually asked for, so it’s great that together with Primark we can now make our first official range available across the UK - so that fans can quite literally show their love for Greggs on their sleeves.

“We’ve got some great pieces that we can’t wait to share.

“Our ‘Tasty by Greggs’ café will be the first of its kind, and will offer an exciting Greggs experience, underpinned by the great products and service that’s already delivered across all of our shops.”

Tim Kelly, Director of New Business Development at Primark added: “We want to give our customers incredible experiences in our stores and offer collections they can’t find anywhere else, with brands we know they love.

“We’re thrilled to have teamed up with Greggs to bring the Tasty Café to our Birmingham store and give fans of the brand the chance to get their hands on the limited-edition clothing range.”
