A festive Winter Wonderland will takeover Newcastle Racecourse this festive season with an extravaganza of fun for all the family.

The event is being touted at Newcastle's biggest winter fair and returns to the racecourse after another successful event last year. As well as all the favourite fairground rides, there will be food stalls, a German beer bar and even appearances from the big man Father Christmas himself.

When is Winter Wonderland running in Newcastle in 2022?

The Fenwick Christmas Window is open and Christmas lights are starting to hang over the city centre which means the festive season has officially arrived on Tyneside. The Winter Wonderland at Newcastle Racecourse will open Thursday, November 17 and run right until Christmas Eve.

Opening times are from 4 pm to 9 pm on weekdays and 12 pm to 9 pm on weekends. Once term has finished the Winter Wonderland will run with extended hours from 12 pm to 9 pm all week.

What is there to do at Winter Wonderland Newcastle?

Plenty is the short answer to that! Organisers are promising "something for all the family" with regular events scheduled for every week. A wide array of fairground rides will include a children's rollercoaster. There's also been huge interest in Winter Wonderland's zip wire, ice skating, toboggan slide and bungee - details on all of these can be found on the event's Facebook page and website. As well as these, there are also recurring events including the following:

  • Every Saturday in December - Once Upon a Princess show at 3 pm and Fairy Godmother Christmas Singalong at 6 pm
  • Every Sunday in December - Superhero Party at 3 pm
  • Every Thursday - Meet the reindeer from 4 pm
  • Festive Grotto - Chance to meet Santa on various regular dates, no booking needed with a queuing system in place. Kids cost £6.99 and two accompanying adults go free. Every child receives a soft teddy bear.

Where do I buy a ticket to Winter Wonderland at Newcastle Racecourse?

All attendees to Winter Wonderland must have a ticket, which can be purchased online in advance or on arrival at the entrance gate. The ticket includes entry into the event but not any of the attractions or rides. Entry price for anyone over the age of 12 is £9.50 and children aged between three and 11 cost £7.50. A family ticket, for two adults and two children, costs £29.
