What is the latest in Newcastle’s search for a DOF?

Newcastle’s new owners are, understandably, carrying out a thorough process to ensure they employ the right person for the job.

That ultimately could delay an appointment until after the January transfer window with the new owners, their advisors and Eddie Howe in the process of identifying targets.

Indeed, the appointment of a director of football, sporting or technical director is crucial as United look to take great strides on and off the field.

Since the £305million takeover was completed in October, Amanda Staveley & Co have been reviewing the football operations side of the club.

In that time, former Liverpool, Rangers and Nottingham Forest director Frank McParland has been advising the new owners.

A director of football will have a defining say on decisions and bring insight and knowledge that, to some extent, is currently absent.

That is why it is essential Newcastle draft in the correct candidate.

What has Eddie Howe said about working with DOF?

Howe said in November: “I think to get the structure we want in place will be important for the long-term benefit of the club, for sure.

“It’s something I know that the club is looking at and when they believe they’ve identified the right people, that will happen.

“But, at this moment in time, I’m happy working in the way that we are, focusing on the team of players and focusing on the training pitch.

“I’m sure everything else, in time, will take care of itself.”
