Simon Jordan’s ‘can’t spell’ jibe to Newcastle United fans after takeover celebrations

talkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan gave a jokey response to Newcastle United fans after they unveiled a banner directed at him over the weekend. It came as the Magpies celebrated a year since the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover of the club was completed.

Ahead of United’s win over Brentford at the weekend, supporters revealed a banner poking fun at Jordan’s previous comments that had claimed their takeover was ‘deader than a dead thing from dead land’.

The former Crystal Palace owner had claimed the takeover wouldn’t happen due to a dispute with Qatar network beIN SPORTS, however it eventually went through and has since been key to the Tyneside club’s revival in the Premier League.

After previously admitting he was ‘completely wrong’ about the takeover’s collapse, Jordan saw the funny side of the fans’ banner. Speaking to talkSPORT, Jordan said: “I was surprised by that because you said to me ‘it couldn’t have been the Newcastle fans because they can’t spell. I was surprised to see it so well put together.”

His co-host, Jim White, added, “It is just another in a long series of moments he’s had to do something of a U-turn.”

The Magpies certainly won’t be bitter over Jordan’s previous comments and instead are able to joke about it as their side fly high in sixth place. Their 5-1 thrashing of Brentford came at a perfect time as they celebrated the anniversary of their takeover - only a week after they had put four past Fulham.
