Ten memorable Newcastle United third kits as Castore officially release controversial strip

The latest Newcastle United third kit has provoked much debate and discussion in the media.

After all of the talk, Newcastle United and Castore finally released the Magpies third kit for the new season.

It is just over a month since images were leaked of the white and green kit and criticism over its similarity to the Saudi Arabian national team kit began.

That debate has flared up again following Tuesday morning’s confirmation and will no doubt rage on for weeks and months to come.

Rarely worn during a season, the release of a third kit goes as far back as the 1930s when the Magpies wore a red and black away kit for an FA Cup tie against Leeds United and a blue shirt for a cup tie with West Bromwich Albion.

The release of third kits were sporadic until the Premier League era when Kevin Keegan’s United were forced to wear a green and blue kit for a fixture at Sheffield Wednesday.

More commonplace in recent years, there have been some truly memorable third kits during that time.
