Alan Shearer turns the air blue as Newcastle United legend mocked after Aston Villa defeat

Alan Shearer turned the air blue after being laughed at following Newcastle United’s defeat to Aston Villa.

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards poked fun at Alan Shearer following Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Shearer was angrily reflecting on back-to-back defeats for the Magpies against Coventry City and Villa on The Rest Is Football podcast when Richards could be heard sniggering in the background.

The Newcastle legend was cheekily teed up by Lineker when he asked: “What’s wrong at the minute? Because a couple of weeks ago, you were telling us Champions League... now it’s all gone flat for you.”

Shearer replied: “Well, yeah, it has. Because I look at their performance at Coventry, which was terrible, and I’m thinking, ‘What response have we got at home at St James’ Park against Villa?’ And there was nothing.

“They didn’t create. They had one shot on target, which was Botman in the second half. Other than that, no creativity, no one with that killer pass. Ah, we were terrible.”

Finally giving in to Richards’ laughter, Shearer turned the air blue, telling the former Manchester City full-back to “f--k off” before saying: “We were really, really bad.”

Richards then said: “I’m laughing, not because you’re spilling your heart out and you’re passionate for your club – I love all that. But Gaz is exactly right. Do you remember when we were talking about top four and he goes, ‘Newcastle are playing tomorrow’.”

In his defence, Shearer said: “No, but what I did say is it is going to be a yo-yo season, and I did have them finishing 13th or 14th, and I still think that will be the case. But there was no response from that really poor performance at Coventry. I was expecting a lot more.

“They were really weak, tepid. There was nothing to their performance at all that you’d come away and think, ‘We did alright there’. They were terrible. Too easy to play through, they were.

“I said they didn’t create anything, which was worrying, but the way teams can play through Newcastle... because if you beat that press with the front six, there are such huge holes in the middle.”

Matthias Jaissle’s side were unbeaten in their opening three Premier League matches, beating Tottenham Hotspur and drawing with Liverpool and Bournemouth, but have now suffered three defeats in their last four.

They next travel to Crystal Palace, who were thumped 5-0 by rivals Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
