Eddie Howe 'heavily linked' with Premier League & Champions League return after Newcastle United exit
Former Newcastle United winger Chris Waddle has discussed what could come next for Eddie Howe.
Former Newcastle United winger Chris Waddle has claimed Eddie Howe ‘won’t be short of offers’ as he assesses his options following his summer departure from St James Park.
The former Bournemouth head coach oversaw a remarkable upturn in fortunes throughout his time on Tyneside as he converted Newcastle from relegation certainties to Champions League qualifiers during a five-year stint with the Magpies. Howe also wrote his name into the club’s history books after his side ended United’s 70-year wait for major domestic silverware with a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in March last year.

After a difficult season last time out, Howe opted to step down from his role at St James Park during the summer and he has reportedly rejected an approach from Ligue 1 club Lens over the last month after the Champions League qualifiers parted company with former head coach Dino Toppmoller in September. Howe is believed to be keen to take some time away from the game but his name has also been suggested as a possible replacement for Michael Carrick as he struggles to draw consistency out of his Manchester United players.
Waddle insisted Howe will be the subject of interest from clubs and believes the one that ‘presses the panic button first’ will make a move for his services.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the former England winger said: “Eddie Howe did a great job at Newcastle, let's be honest. That puts him in a good position while sitting on the fence waiting for the right job to come along. It's a matter of who presses the panic button first.
“He will be heavily linked because of what he achieved at Newcastle, and rightly so. He plays a nice brand of football, so a lot of teams will be looking at him and thinking about when to make that move. He won't be short of offers. He's probably enjoying a nice break at the minute, but after a few weeks, he's probably thinking he's ready to get back into it. It just depends on who presses the panic button first in the Premier League.”
