Allan Saint-Maximin issues update as concerning images emerge of former Newcastle United star

Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin says he’ll be back soon following his injury blow at the weekend.

Saint-Maximin was stretchered off in the closing stages of Al Ahli’s 3-1 win over Al Wehda having scored the opening goal on his return to the starting XI.

Former Roma defender Roger Ibanez and ex-Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez were also on the scoresheet before the Saint-Maximin incident occurred.

The Frenchman immediately clutched his lower right leg and visibly looked in some discomfort. Images after the game saw Saint-Maximin badly limping out of the stadium.

Al Ahli confirmed after the game the 26-year-old has suffered minor ligament damage to his foot but a return date is unclear.

Saint-Maximin has taken to Instagram to issue an update. He said: “The test of faith produces patience 💪🏾 I’ll be back 🔜 brothers 🤍 God willing 💚 Thanks for all your message 🙏🏾”

The former France under-21s international has scored twice in nine appearances for Al Ahli since making the switch from Newcastle in the summer.

Despite his exit, he remains a popular figure at St James’ Park, where he made 124 appearances and scored 13 goals across a four-year spell.

When issuing an emotional goodbye message, Saint-Maximin vowed to continue being the Magpies’ biggest supporter.

He said: “A deep thank you to ALL of you, my teammates, the loyal fans, the staff, the Club, etc… I’ve seen all your messages, thank you and even though this chapter has ended, the story never stops. Newcastle is home now, I’ll continue to be your biggest supporter, I’ll watch every game and as long as the club keeps winning I’ll be the happiest man in the world… and for sure you will see me again 👀
