‘Been watching Eddie Howe’ - Newcastle United reaction to Saudi Arabia’s win over Argentina

‘Been watching Eddie Howe’ - Newcastle United reaction to Saudi Arabia’s win over Argentina.

Saudi Arabia have picked up the biggest shock of the World Cup so far by beating Argentina. The underdogs beat Lionel Messi and Co 2-1 in Qatar after coming from behind in the second-half.

Newcastle United are owned 80% by the Public Investment Fund which is the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia with club chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, being the governer. They took over from Mike Ashley last year and the club has since risen up to 3rd place in the Premier League table after a series of shrewd signings since then.

Not many gave Hervé Renard’s side a chance going into their clash today against Argentina, mainly due to the fact that they are ranked 51st in the world. However, they have stunned everybody and now sit top of their group after their first fixture with games against Poland and Mexico to come.

Some Newcastle supporters have been keeping an eye on how they are doing and many have taken to social media to send the following messages...

@TyroneMills91 - “Ahh the irony of people congratulating Saudi Arabia after slating the whole country for the past 12 months after our takeover.”

@Alangar49856067 - “Why are all these people loving Saudi Arabia win slagging off #nufc ? #nufc haters obviously? Standards for what they like. Standards for their hatred.”

@Willg_nufc - “They have definitely been studying Newcastle.”

@DanielWoodward6 - “Saudi Arabia making a statement in the World Cup just like #NUFC are making a statement in the Premier League.”
