Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes appeared to approve of a £73 million price tag being assigned to his midfield services on a social media post this week.

A graphic shared by Tranfermarkt listed the most expensive Brazilian players in the Premier League with the Magpies maestro coming out top ahead of Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, as well as his former Lyon pal turned West Ham star Lucas Paqueta.

The post, which Guimaraes liked and shared on his story, slapped an €85 million valuation on his head, equivalent to around £73 million. The playmaker was no doubt pleased to take the number one spot but some Newcastle United supporters may have been surprised to see the star celebrating such a figure.

The 25-year-old's future at St James' Park has been somewhat of a talking topic in recent weeks amid discussions over a new contract for the player. Newcastle United confirmed last week that Guimaraes had put pen to paper on a new five-year contract to keep him at the club until 2028 - which comes shortly after the star appeared to confirm his commitment to the club with a passionate celebration in the historic 8-0 win over Sheffield United.

Reports of Guimaraes' new contract come with the belief that a £100 million release clause has been placed into the deal - the same figure Liverpool reportedly bid for the player in their quest for a midfielder this summer.

In recent weeks, Guimaraes' performance in black-and-white have been classy and key in the side's form, with many no doubt believing he is worth in excess of £100 million- let alone the £73 million claimed by Transfermarkt.

The image valued Gunners' man Martinelli at €80 million with Paqueta, who was subject of a £70 million bid from Manchester City this summer, valued at €65 million. Magpies man Joelinton comes in eighth place at €42 million.

Speaking after signing his new contract deal, Guimaraes told Newcastle United: "I'm absolutely delighted. The fans have made me feel at home since my first day here and I feel so loved in my life.

"I'm so happy here. It's a place that is so comfortable to be and I hope to keep making the supporters happy and helping the team do well. That's my goal, because there are no words to describe how happy I am to be here.

"I remember in my first interview, I said I wanted to play for this club in the Champions League and now it's happening. We are doing so well and when I look around the pitch at my team-mates, I am so proud of them all. I'm proud of everyone; the team, the staff, the owners and the fans.

"The city believes again and it's unbelievable what we have done for the team. I hope that this can continue. It's amazing what has happened in my life in the last two years."
