Newcastle United star Callum Wilson has sent Aston Villa a cheeky message ahead of the Magpies' visit to Birmingham this Saturday.

Two of the Premier League's most in-form sides will clash at Villa Park in this weekend's early kick-off in what looks a tasty fixture on paper.

Eddie Howe led his Newcastle side to three victories in just six days last week as the North East club made it five top-flight victories in a row.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery's side have won their last four and are unbeaten in the Premier League since February 18 as the new manager continues to work wonders after taking over from Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa have shot up the table in 2023 and now sit in sixth place, just six points off Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth-placed Europa League spot.

The Villains are nine points adrift of Manchester United in fourth, although do play the Red Devils, Newcastle and Spurs before the season is out, making a late Champions League push a distant possibility.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson spoke ahead of the match on the BBC Sounds' Footballer's Football Podcast and sent a brazen warning to Emery and his men regarding their recent hot streak in form.

Wilson said: "Looks like we're going to have to put the fire out. Someone call the fire brigade!

"We've won the last five. On form it's a good fixture, they'll have extra motivation as we beat them 4-0 at home. It's going to be a game where they want to get their own back in front of the fans. It's going to be a difficult match."

Wilson, who has recently been competing for a starting berth in the Newcastle side with Swede Alexander Isak, bagged a brace when Villa visited St James' Park in October.

Joelinton and Miguel Almiron were also on the scoresheet in that match which came just days after Emery was announced as the new Villa boss, although he didn't start the role until November.

Speaking on the podcast, Wilson also had time to reflect on a nine-point week for Newcastle United when asked how players prepared with such quick turnarounds by a fan.

Wilson said: "What I would say Scott is phwoar, what a week it was! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

"The home win against United made the week start so much better than you rest, recover and get ready for the game against West Ham. We travelled the morning of that game and put in a five-star performance, if you get my cliche.

"When you got two games in London in a short space of time it defeats the object of flying to the other end of the country for a day. We stayed down in London, did recovery down there. Because of the short space between games, you don't get as much time to prepare as you should."
