Brighton & Hove Albion match-winner Danny Welbeck has praised the care and professionalism of Newcastle’s royal infirmary in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 victory over the Magpies.
Welbeck inspired Brighton to a victory at St James’ Park as the Seagulls became the first team to win away to Newcastle United since Manchester City back in January. The 42-time England international scored the winner in the 35th minute of the contest to make it five goals in eight Premier League matches, already levelling the tally that he managed throughout the entirety of the previous campaign.

Hide AdWelbeck was a threat throughout, who the Magpies defence struggled to ever get to grip with, but his afternoon was marred in the 81st minute when he was stretchered off the field with what looked to be a serious back injury after an accidental collision with Fabian Schar.
The 33-year-old left the field to applause from all around St James’ Park with many fearing that the injury would be a lengthy one. However, in a positive update, Welbeck has assured Brighton fans that he should be back in contention to play in the near future and stated that he is well on the road to recovery.
Welbeck posted on X: “Still a bit sore, but after some extra checks and scan today, I’m pleased to say I should be back in training soon. Thanks to our medical staff and Newcastle Royal Infirmary A&E for their care and professionalism. Also to the boys for waiting for me to get home! Huge 3 points.”
Brighton climbed to fifth in the table after their impressive victory in the north east, while Newcastle dropped down to eighth in a disappointing night where they were simply unable to break down the Seagulls defence. The result leaves Newcastle trailing fourth place Aston Villa by five points at this early stage while they are already two points adrift of Chelsea in sixth place.
