The Magpies reportedly missed out on the signing of a former team-mate of the Brazilian star.

A former team-mate of Newcastle United star Joelinton has revealed he snubbed an offer to join the Magpies earlier in his career.

Ghana international defender Karim Adams has revealed he received an offer from the Magpies during the summer of 2018 as Rafa Benitez looked to build on a solid performance in United’s first season back in the Premier League.

After a summer being linked with the likes of Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, the Spanish boss was successful in adding to his defensive ranks with the signings of Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar at a combined cost of around £9million.

However, 14-times capped Ghana centre-back Adams has revealed he had interest from Newcastle and three Bundesliga clubs during his time with Swiss club Young Boys prior to those moves before he decided to join current Magpies star Joelinton at Hoffenheim.

He told MX24: “When I wanted to leave Young Boys to go to Hoffenheim, it wasn’t just them who wanted me. I had Newcastle, I had Dortmund. I also had Bayer Leverkusen, but I chose to go to Hoffenheim because I knew that I could grow there. I was just twenty something and I wanted to play more games to grow.”

Adams went on to make 37 appearances for Hoffenheim and remains under contract with the Bundesliga club but has also spent time on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf and FC Basel.
