Newcastle United fans wanting to own new signing Harvey Barnes in the Fantasy Premier League game can do so for £6.5 as the fantasy football game unveils the midfielder's price.

The former Leicester City star was confirmed to have put pen to paper on a five-year deal at St James' Park this week after completing a £38 million move from the relegated Foxes side. It's the second major midfield signing from Eddie Howe this summer after splurging £52 million on AC Milan star Sandro Tonali.

The official fantasy football game of the Premier League launched earlier this month with its 11 million annual users beginning to pick their 15-man squads ahead of the league's beginning in August.

Last season, Newcastle United stars became some of the game's most popular picks and fantasy managers will no doubt be eyeing up the Magpies' men to bring home the bacon once again this campaign.

Over the 2023/24 season, defender Kieran Trippier finished the season as the highest-scoring player in his position thanks to nine assists and 16 clean sheets, beating the higher-priced and shoo-in Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Elsewhere, Miguel Almiron's purple patch of eight goals in nine matches saw him a must-own in October and Callum Wilson's 18-goal return proved him a great option, even when only coming on off the bench.

At Leicester City, Barnes brought home his best-ever points return of 138, despite the side's poor form. The midfielder scored 13 times for the Foxes, two more times than Newcastle's highest-goalscoring midfielder Almiron.

Quite how Barnes fits into an already-loaded Newcastle United midfielder alongside the likes of Anthony Gordon, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Jacob Murphy remains to be seen, but those in charge at Fantasy Premier League HQ clearly envision big things for the Englishman.

Barnes' £6.5 price comes in at more than first-team shoo-ins Guimaraes, Joelinton and Tonali, and at the same fee fantasy managers will fork out for Almiron.

Being added to the game on Monday, the new man's uptake among fantasy players has been slow to begin with. Just 0.% of users own Barnes at the moment with eight Newcastle United midifielders, including the departing Allan Saint-Maximin, all more popular options.

Reacting to the price reveal, one social media user said: “I was hoping he was going to be £6.0m. Guess Wor Harvey just bangs too many goals for that.”

Another wrote: “I thought Diaby was cheap at 6.5, but Barnes too. If he can nail down a starting spot then yes I'd have him. Goals and assists, the boys Fpl gold. Shame #avfc didn't sign him, but he's gone to another club on the up. Good luck Toon Army.”
