All Geordie eyes will be on local singer Sam Fender tonight as he goes up for some major Brit Awards, but the big show will clash with Newcastle United's Premier League fixture against Everton.

North Shields' Fender is nominated for Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year and Rock and Alternative Artist at The Brit Awards 2022.

It's a big night for the 'Hypersonic Missiles' singer, who is looking to add an accolade to his 2019 Critics' Choice Award - which is now housed at his local watering hole in North Shields, the Low Lights Tavern.

Geordies will also be looking forward to Fender's performance at The Brit Awards.

It is expected he will perform 'Seventeen Going Under', a tribute to the North East, but those at Newcastle United's match will miss the moment.

When are the Brit Awards on TV?

The Brit Awards 2022 will air on ITV 1 tonight, Tuesday, February 8 from 8 pm.

It's a hefty show, running for two and a half hours, but does clash with Newcastle United's match against Everton this evening.

It's a 19:45 kick-off at St. James' Park tonight, meaning Fender will be performing and, hopefully, winning awards whilst Eddie Howe's team are doing likewise on the pitch.

What does Sam Fender have to do with Newcastle United?

Born and raised in North Shields, Sam Fender is a Geordie through and through.

He's a big fan of Newcastle United, coming out to part on takeover day last October and walking out to the anthemic 'Local Hero' at his live shows.

His lyrics often talk about growing up in the region.

Last year's critically acclaimed 'Seventeen Going Under', which he is set to perform tonight, references 'fist fights on the beach' in North Shields and growing up in North East poverty.

When asked about the takeover by NewcastleWorld last year, he said: “Mate, we’ve been waiting our lifetime for this.

“We’ve got rid of that horrible - I mean this is going to go straight in the Chronicle - that zero-hour contract, token, greedy b.... is gone.

“And Newcastle has been restored.”

However, there is a way to watch back after the Newcastle United vs Everton match.

The Brit Awards 2022 show will be on ITV Player after it airs and videos of performances are often posted on YouTube after the show.

The singer will be performing at the show alongside the likes of Doja Cat, Dave, Ed Sheeran, Holly Humberstone, Liam Gallagher and Little Simz.

Fender said: "It’s beyond a dream to be performing at the BRIT Awards this year.

"Me and the band are so excited to get up on that stage, it’s going to be mega."
