West Ham United boss David Moyes believes Newcastle United are currently “one of the best teams in Europe” following the midweek win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The Magpies extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over the French champions in what was their first Champions League fixture at St James’ Park for 20 years.

Before dismantling PSG, Eddie Howe’s side had drawn 0-0 against AC Milan in the San Siro, dumped English and European champions Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup and beaten Brentford, Sheffield United and Burnley in the Premier League.

And ahead of Sunday afternoon’s visit to the London Stadium, Moyes had his praise for Newcastle and Howe.

“It (Newcastle’s 4-1 win over PSG) is a night in Europe which will be remembered for so long,” said Moyes. “We had a great night here a few years ago against Sevilla. And there are nights in the club’s history like that, and I think Newcastle had that against PSG

“I think Newcastle are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment. There is so much quality in their side and the manager has done such a good job.

“He [Eddie Howe] has steered them into a good organisation and shape and I think they are up with some of the best teams in Europe at the minute.”

West Ham are also in good form ahead of the fixture, which Newcastle won 5-1 last season after braces from Callum Wilson and Joelinton and a goal from Alexander Isak, as they sit 7th in the table - one place and one point above Howe’s side.

Wilson and Joelinton are both doubts for Sunday’s match because of hamstring injuries.
