'It didn't': Newcastle United star's partner reveals emotional 'challenge' after Champions League exit

Joelinton's partner Thays Gondim has revealed the motivations behind the Brazilian's incredible performance in Newcastle United's defeat to AC Milan.

Last night United crashed out of the Champions League after losing 2-1 to the Italian's in the final group stage match of this campaign.

It was an emotional night. Joelinton's incredible goal at 33 minutes allowed fans to dream the Magpies were going through the the last 16. It was an awe-inspiring performance from the midfielder throughout; it's unbelievable he was on the losing side.

And now his long-term partner Thays has shared an emotional tribute to the 27-year-old in the wake of Tyneside heartbreak, revealing just how much he loves the club.

"Proud, proud and proud! What a beautiful path of my life, full of challenges...he fought hard on and off the field," wrote Thays.

"He loves this shirt. Let's keep going it didn't stop here. It was beautiful, it was challenging, it was exciting... Congratulations to my life @joelinton34 and to the entire @nufc team."

The Brazilian pair have been in a relationship since 2015 and have three children together, the third being born this year after an elaborate gender reveal at St James' Park.

Joelinton will be back in action again on Saturday 16 December when Newcastle United take on Fulham in the Premier League and try to end their three-match losing streak.
