James Maddison has already hinted at where he sees opportunity amid transfer links with Newcastle United.
Maddison has regularly been linked with a move to St James’ Park, as well as a number of other clubs, but he remains at Leicester City after five years and 150 league appearances. Though, a crossroads may lie ahead for the midfielder, who will have just one year remaining on his contract from this summer.

Leicester will be hoping to agree a new deal, but if they can’t, this summer will be their last opportunity to get a big fee for the England international, and Newcastle may well return with a bid, or at least that’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
“Then a creative midfielder. There is a player they really love who is James Maddison who is doing very well with Leicester,” Romano told the House of Champions Podcast. “He is a player they always had on top of their list and I am sure they will try again before the summer. I don’t know how much competition there will be because this kind of player is always on the list of big clubs, but Newcastle will be there.”
Maddison hasn’t spoken too much about his future over recent times, but he did speak after last summer’s transfer window, and when asked about Leicester’s lack of business, he seemed to hint at enjoying life as a big fish in a small pond.
“After it shuts, I think there is a bit of a sigh of relief, especially some of the staff at football clubs,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think it definitely can be [a chance for others to shine after a lack of Leicester signings]. In tough times, you need your big players and your top players to grab the team. And stick the team on your back, at times.”
Maddison has made 17 Premier League appearances so far this season, scoring nine times and assisting five.
