Kieran Trippier has handed a major boost to Newcastle United by committing himself to the Magpies until the summer of 2025.
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender has become a key cog in Eddie Howe’s side since he joined United in a reported £13m deal from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid last January, becoming the first signing following the PIF-led takeover at St James Park just three months earlier.

After battling back to fitness, Trippier has played a lead role in the Magpies’ impressive performances so far this season and has formed part of a defence that has kept 16 clean sheets in all competitions as United look to achieve success in the Carabao Cup and qualify for European competition for the first time in over a decade.
After putting pen to paper, Trippier revealed his motivation for extending his time on Tyneside, declaring there was ‘no place he’d rather be’ at this point in his career.
He told the club website: “I’m absolutely delighted that I’ve extended my contract here. I’ve got a lot of thank yous to make to the manager, owners, fans and my teammates. When I first arrived here, they made me feel so welcome and I want to help the club achieve great things. It’s a positive moment for us players in the club and there’s no place I’d rather be.”

He said: “It’s a fitting reward for the season he’s had. He’s been outstanding both on and off the pitch, showing real leadership at a difficult moment when he first arrived, and now he’s excelled in a team that’s doing well. I can’t praise him enough for everything he’s given the club.”
