Newcastle United-linked Ruben Neves has outlined his ambition to play in the Champions League. The midfielder is facing an uncertain future at Wolves ahead of the summer.

His contract at Molinuex expires in 2024 but his current club are facing a real battle to keep hold of him ahead of the next transfer window amid attention from elsewhere. They risk losing him for free if they don’t cash in on him, assuming he doesn’t put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

Newcastle have been credited with an interest in the Portugal international, who has 39 caps under his belt so far in his career. However, they may have to see off competition.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Neves has said: “Let’s see. Let’s see what happens. Of course, I always say the same thing, I truly love to be here but I never hide that I want to play Champions League football. That is a hard decision to make because I feel at home here.

“In football you need to hurry, you need to go for your main goals and I think that would be a massive decision for me and my family. Nothing has happened yet. It is was my last game here, I really enjoyed it and I’m thankful for every single person who has worked with me for six seasons.”

Wolves signed Neves back in 2017 after he rose up through the youth ranks at FC Porto and he has since been a key player for the Midlands outfit. He helped them win the Championship title in his first year.

The 26-year-old has since made 252 appearances in all competitions and has found the net 30 times. Newcastle could see him as an ideal addition as they close in on the Champions League and would certainly inject more quality into their ranks.
