'Makes me sick' - Bruno Guimaraes responds to Newcastle United v PSG controversy

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes revealed his anger at the decision to award Paris Saint-Germain a penalty during Tuesday night's Champions League clash.

After Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the 24th minute, the Magpies were moments away from claiming a famous 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes until PSG were given a spot-kick in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Referee Szymon Marcinia initially waved away PSG's appeals before changing his mind when instructed to review the decision at the pitchside monitor. Kylian Mbappe kept his cool from 12 yards.

The U-turn provoked a furious response with replays showing Ousmane Dembele's cross hit Tino Livramento before striking his upper arm.

And Guimaraes refused to sugarcoat how he really felt about the incident.

Via his official Instagram account the Brazilian said: "Sometimes in life you have to accept some decisions that you know are wrong and not being able to do anything for that makes."

During his post-match interview, the 26-year-old also said he wasn't happy about what had happened.

"I thought we were good. In the first half we controlled the game and the second half they were better," he said. "It's hard to speak about what happened in the end. I am not happy with what happened. The ball touched Tino's body first.

"We have to keep the faith, we still have one game at home. We hope our fans, as always, will create an amazing atmosphere. We know what we have to do. But I am proud.

"Everyone gave everything. We are proud, we did amazing. It's not easy to come here and play. We showed an amazing attitude to win the game. We should win. Difficult but I'm proud of the guys.

"We can control our game but not the referee. As I said before, I am not happy with what happened but sometimes in life you have to accept these things and move on."

Newcastle's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League is out of their hands.

Instead, Eddie Howe's side must better PSG's result on the final round of Group F fixtures next month. United host AC Milan at St James' Park while PSG travel to Borussia Dortmund,

"We have been giving everything for the shirt, for the city, for the owners and gaffer, for everyone," Guimaraes added. "I think we should be proud, We still have one game. I believe a lot we win can win against AC Milan and then we'll see if we go through."
