The Magpies have already strengthened their defence this window with the arrival of Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth. However, with both Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman sidelined until later this year with ACL injuries, head coach Eddie Howe wants another centre-back.
United have been regularly linked with AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw, whose agent was forced to deny he was close to completing a move to St James’ Park on Monday. But the links to Thiaw have quickly become a thing of the past - at least briefly for now - after news of an approach Guehi went public.

Hide AdTalks between Newcastle and Palace have taken place this week with negotiations set to be handled by new sporting director Paul Mitchell. However, there are no guarantees that both clubs will come to an agreement with the South London outfit set to demand at least £65million, as per Mail Sport.
But the player could force Palace’s hand. Mail Sport also claims that the 24-year-old is open to leaving for the right project. Although Newcastle are the first team to follow up their initial interest, it’s understood Guehi is on the radar of several Premier League and European clubs.
Guehi has just two years left on his contract at Selhurst Park. His stock is currently at its highest after he emerged as one of England’s standout stars at Euro 2024.
Whilst talks over Guehi continue, Howe’s side are set to close out a £15million deal for Sheffield United forward Will Osula, who is set to become the club’s fifth senior summer signing after Kelly, John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos, while Lewis Hall’s loan from Chelsea has become permanent for an initial £28m.
