Matias Fernandez-Pardo concern emerges from Newcastle United training update
Matias Fernandez-Pardo hasn’t featured in Newcastle United’s training photos as the squad prepare for the visit to Crystal Palace.
Newcastle United travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon hoping to end a run of two successive Premier League defeats.
It was a bruising week for the Magpies and head coach Matthias Jaissle, with uninspiring defeats to Coventry City and Aston Villa raising concerns over the German’s “vertical football” style of play.
Jaissle, however, has an opportunity to silence his doubters against Palace, whose manager Pierre Sage has also come under intense scrutiny following a 5-0 defeat to rivals Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.

The Eagles, who have conceded the most goals (17) in the Premier League this season, sit one point below Newcastle in the table.
Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey latest
Jaissle’s squad suffered badly with injuries before the recent international break but are edging closer to full strength, with Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Tino Livramento the only outfield players missing from the 1-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa last Saturday.
Elanga and Ramsey are close to a return, with Jaissle revealing last week that there was a chance the pair could train in the lead-up to the Palace game. However, in images released by the club in recent days, neither has been spotted.
No sign of Matias Fernandez-Pardo in NUFC training pictures
There has also been no sighting of £51million summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo after the Belgian felt unwell during the Villa game.
The 21-year-old had started the last three matches as the central striker but was moved out to the right-hand side against Unai Emery’s side. He played the opening hour before being replaced by Bazoumana Toure.
After the game, Jaissle confirmed: “First of all, you need to also know that during the match, he wasn’t feeling 100% well. He has a sickness feeling, so we also need to consider that.
“But in general, especially in the first 30 minutes, he used his strengths on the wing so this is an element we can use more often for sure.”
Newcastle still have three full days of training before travelling to South London, giving Fernandez-Pardo time to recover from his illness, if he is indeed still suffering.
