Barcelona social media outrage as Anthony Gordon responds after Newcastle United exit

Anthony Gordon dropped a stinker as Barcelona were beaten 4-2 by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Anthony Gordon has admitted he failed to perform as Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 in the Champions League.

The winger was part of the Newcastle United side that thrashed PSG 4-1 at St James’ Park three years ago. He also came off the bench as the Magpies earned a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes earlier this year.

However, now in Blaugrana colours, Gordon struggled to make an impact against the current champions. The former Toon star failed to impress in the final third and lost Lucas Hernandez for PSG’s second goal.

Anthony Gordon makes honest admission

Barca fans on social media ridiculed Gordon’s performance at the full-time whistle. Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, the 25-year-old conceded that he did not deliver on the big stage.

"I like playing in both positions (winger and striker) because they offer different things,” Gordon said. “I really like both positions. Ultimately, I didn't think my performance was great tonight. I've got a lot of individual work to do because, on these nights, I really want to perform and I don't think tonight I was at my best."

‘Team to beat’ - Anthony Gordon

Gordon also believes PSG - aiming for a hat-trick of Champions League titles - are the team to beat in the competition. He added: "I think we can take great positives, because we played well. It was a competitive spectacle, but we've still got work to do and that's a good position (to be in).

"They've been the best for two years. They're still the team to beat and we need to take from this that we need to do enough work, analyse this game, and try and become the team that needs to be beaten."
