Eddie Howe could be looking at the Bundesliga for one of his first summer transfer window signings at St James’ Park.

The latest player to be linked with a big money move to Newcastle United this summer is Bayern Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe is keen to add a wide forward for next season and the 22-year old Frenchman could be the player he prioritises.

However, he is far from their only target in that position and a reported £40m price tag may be slightly higher than the St James’ Park outfit are willing to spend on an individual player.

Moussa Diaby is a 22-year old winger who plays for German side Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The Frenchman signed for Die Werkself in 2019 having began his senior career with Paris Saint Germain.

Diaby came through the PSG youth academy before turning out 14 times for the B team in 2017 and was the recipient of the 2016 Titi d’Or, an award given to the most promising player in the Paris Saint-Germain academy.

After spending the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at Italian Serie A side Crotone, the winger returned to Paris to and made his first team debut in August 2018.

Diaby went on to play 34 times and score 4 goals across all competitions in the 2018-19 season and lifting the Ligue 1 title before joining Leverkusen on a five year contract.

In his three seasons for the German side he has made 124 first team appearances and scored 35 goals across all competitions.


On the international stage, Diaby has won five caps for the France senior men’s team having previously represented the country of his birth at Under 18, Under 19, Under 20 and Under 21 level.

As per The Telegraph, Eddie Howe is keen to sign a wide forward for next season.

However, Diaby is not the only target that the St Jame’s Park outfit are said to be eyeing up with Leeds United’s Brazilian star Raphinha also on their radar.

The paper reports that Diaby is ‘high on the list’ of summer transfer targets for the Magpies and that Bayern Leverkusen would be looking for a fee in the £40 million “bracket” for his services.
