Newcastle United have continued to beef up the infrastructure with another under-the-radar, behind-the-scenes appointment.

Since the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia majority buyout, and under the guidance of minority shareholders Jamie Reuben, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley, United’s policy has been to put some meat on the bones left by former owner Mike Ashley. The Sports Direct tycoon had run the club very much on a skeleton staffing basis.

And while the football infrastructure away from the pitch has been the priority with the likes of Dan Ashworth and Darren Eales brought to the club in the last six months, some appointments a little closer to on-field proceedings have also been made.

One such appointment, confirmed on social media, appears to be that of a physiotherapist.

Taking to Twitter, Cain Williamson, confirmed he will switch from a role at rugby union outfit Newcastle Falcons, to join the Magpies.

Retweeting a job advert for his old role, Williamson said: “Well there it is, not long until I start my new role at @NUFC, lets go.”

According to the physio’s LinkedIn profile, Williamson is experienced in his role, having worked extensively both in the lower leagues of English football and with rugby sides across both codes, union and league.

My previous work experiences include Osbourne Clinic, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, G4 Physiotherapy & Fitness, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, SPS Premier Sports Physiotherapy, Wigan Athletic F.C. and Tarleton R.U.F.C. As well as this I have obtained student experiences with England Rugby Students, Yorkshire Carnegie, AFC Fylde and Bradford City football club.”
