The winger gave Newcastle’s defences plenty of problems earlier in the season

Newcastle United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all battling to secure the signature of AFC Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Semenyo made a name for himself after progressing through the Bristol City academy and made his debut at 18 years of age as a substitute for current Magpie Lloyd Kelly when the pair played together in 2018. The Ghanaian showed signs of promise in the lower leagues during loan spells at Bath City and Newport County, which prompted then League One side Sunderland to sign him on a six-month loan deal on deadline day in January 2020.

Semenyo struggled to find his best form at the Stadium of Light and was limited to just seven appearances under Phil Parkinson in a difficult period which was marred by the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown rules that were enforced at the time. However, after returning to Ashton Gate, he established himself as one of the most exciting dribblers in the Championship over the next 18 months and earned himself a £10m move to Premier League side Bournemouth in January 2023.

Semenyo enjoyed an outstanding first full season for the Cherries last term under Andoni Iraola, recording eight goals and two assists in 33 matches to help his team to a solid 12th place finish. The 24-year-old notably got on the scoresheet during a 2-2 draw against Newcastle back in February last season and was once again at the centre of attention this term when the two teams faced off in August. During the contest, he raced past Tino Livramento to provide an excellent assist for Marcus Tavernier in an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

Semenyo is renowned for his excellent trickery, pace and creativity which makes him a top target for Newcastle in January, according to GiveMeSport. The outlet understands that Eddie Howe’s side have sent scouts to keep tabs on the Bournemouth winger this season as they ponder making an offer in the January window.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also showing interest in the Ghana international, who has emerged as one of the rising stars in the Premier League this season.
