The official reason why Matias Fernandez-Pardo ruled out for Newcastle United vs Everton

Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley have not featured since the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa a fortnight ago.

Newcastle United are once again without Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley.

Neither player has featured since the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa a fortnight ago. Miley is currently sidelined with a muscle injury, while Fernandez-Pardo remains out due to an unspecified illness.

On a positive note, Will Osula is fit and firing despite suffering a fresh setback on Thursday. Matthias Jaissle revealed he “twisted” his ankle in the Carabao Cup clash with Everton but has recovered to lead the line at St James’ Park.

Lukas Hornicek keeps his place between the sticks, with Lewis Hall, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar and Amar Dedic completing the backline. Nico Gonzalez and Joelinton anchor the midfield as a three-pronged support act of Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga supply the bullets to Osula in attack.

Matthias Jaissle pre-match message

Jaissle acknowledged Thursday’s defeat in the Carabao Cup in a pre-match message to Newcastle fans. He said: “I must acknowledge the disappointment we all felt following Thursday night’s Carabao Cup game at Everton, especially with such an incredible away following of nearly 8,000 supporters.

“There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves and make excuses – we have to learn quickly, understand what went wrong and where we need to be better, and then make sure we put it into action with a response on the pitch tonight. I have said many times already that we are going through a period of transition and we fully expect to experience ups and downs this season, as the last week has shown.

“What’s vital after nights like Thursday is that we all stick together, in the same way that we all celebrate together and enjoy the moment after wins like Crystal Palace. After a defeat you want the next game to come as soon as possible to try and put things right. Thankfully we have that opportunity tonight against the same opposition as Thursday.”
