The defender has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, and Fabrizio Romano has claimed a formal bid has now been placed.
Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Romano claimed Newcastle have made a £31million ‘proposal’ to Lille in an attempt to pull off the deal.
Though, getting a deal agreed with Lille is just part of the puzzle, with the Magies also needing to convince Botman - something they have struggled with in previous attempts.

Hide AdThe big news on Wednesday is that Newcastle appear to be closing in on a deal for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.
The goalkeeper always looked likely to move this summer, evidently too good to be playing Championship football next season.
The Magpies have taken full advantage, and according to Sky Sports, a deal has now been agreed with the Clarets.
It’s reported Pope will have a medical ahead of his St James’ Park switch this week.
Howe will be delighted to tick off the new goalkeeper as he looks to strengthen key areas.
