Newcastle United are reported to have made contact with the infamous Jorge Mendes over a move for Celta Vigo striker Gabri Veiga.

Newcastle United fans are still waiting patiently for confirmation of Sandro Tonali's Tyneside move but that arrival is likely to only be the first of several for the Magpies this summer.

Eddie Howe is preparing his side to battle for the top four again in the Premier League while also overseeing a Champions League campaign after qualification last term.

Eddie Howe deals with 'super agent' over wonderkid

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United have held talks with infamous football 'super agent' Jorge Mendes over a potential move for young Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga, according to reports.

90min claim that the Magpies have joined Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in enquiring about the 21-year-old who looks to be on the move this summer.

Veiga has a £36.4 million release clause in his current contract which has also sparked interest from European giants Napoli, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

To strike a deal, Newcastle United will have to work with Mendes, who is known as a tricky customer. The agent's clients have included Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, José Mourinho, Diego Costa, James Rodríguez and João Félix over his career.

Newcastle United not in final sprint for Dominik Szoboszlai

Newcastle United are not in the race to sign RB Leipzig for attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai with Liverpool frontrunners to land the star.

The clock is ticking for suitors of the Hungarian star with his £60 million release clause reported to expire today (June 30). After that date, Leipzig will be able to call the shots in demanding a fee for Szoboszlai.

The Magpies had been heavily linked with the midfielder but this afternoon talkSPORT reports that Newcastle United are not in contact with the German side over a possible deal. It comes as the North East club prepare to announce the marquee signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan on a £52 million move.

Jurgen Klopp is now looking the most likely to strike a deal for Szoboszlai as pressure to capitalise on his release clause builds.
