Newcastle United Football Club is 'devastated' at the sudden death of former goalkeeper Dominyka Podziute.

Podziute played for Newcastle United Women during her footballing career, as well as a number of other clubs across the North East.

On the morning of Friday, April 14, Newcastle United Women's team wrote: "We are devastated to hear of the passing of our former player Dominyka Podziute.

"Dom was a much loved member of the squad during her time at the club and will be sorely missed across North East football.

"Our thoughts are with Dom’s family and friends at this difficult time."

The men's side then added: "Extremely sad news. Rest in peace, Dom."

Podziute went on to play for Hartlepool and recently signed for Northern League Division 2 side Chester le Street Town.

Chester le Street Town said in a statement today: "It is with deep sadness that we have today learned that Dominyka Podziute who recently signed for our Ladies section @CLSTladies1 from Hartlepool United Women @Official_HUWFC has sadly passed away,

"Thoughts and condolences are with her family and playing colleagues at this time."

Newcastle United fans took to social media to share images of Podzitue playing and share memories of the keeper after her death was announced.

One fan wrote: "RIP, Dom. Once a black and white, always a black and white. Condolences to her family and friends."

Another wrote: "Sending love and kindness to the family of former Newcastle United player Dominyka Podziute who has passed away."

Someone else shared: "Thank you for everything during my time at Newcastle Dominyka Podziute.

"RIP dear friend."
