Newcastle United fitness boost after eight-month injury blow
Newcastle United starting XI for their Carabao Cup third round clash at Championship side Millwall.
Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar starts against Millwall on his first competitive appearance since January.
The former Switzerland international is one of three changes from the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday, as the Magpies take on Millwall in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Schar was forced off with an ankle injury in the 4-3 win over Leeds United in January and was due to return in April, however a foot injection ended his 2025-26 campaign.
The 34-year-old, who signed a new one-year contract in the summer, featured in pre-season but tonight marks his competitive start - and outing - for eight months.
Schar partners Sven Botman at centre-back as Malick Thiaw drops to the bench. The other changes see Jacob Murphy and Jacob Ramsey come in for Anthony Elanga and Lewis Miley.
