Newcastle United are back in action this weekend with an away trip to AFC Bournemouth. Eddie Howe takes on his former club as he looks to continue his team’s good run of form.

The Toon Army drew 1-1 with West Ham last time out. Here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours coming out of the club...

Newcastle are being linked with a move for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in the next transfer window. The 25-year-old, who started his career at Club America, was at the World Cup with the Mexico national team earlier this winter. Reporter Ben Jacobs has told CaughtOffside:

Arsenal considered Alvarez in January to a degree, but it became quickly clear Ajax didn’t want to do mid-season business. Liverpool have looked at Alvarez before and chose not to proceed and Newcastle are another club to have him at least loosely on their radar.”

Defender wanted

Sheffield United swooped to land Ciaran Clark on loan from Newcastle last summer. The experienced defender was allowed to leave the North East to get some more game time under his belt after he fell down the pecking order under Howe.

According to The Star, the Blades are expected to keep tabs on his situation at the end of this season ahead of a potential permanent transfer. The 33-year-old has helped Paul Heckingbottom’s side rise to 2nd place in the Championship table and they are well on course to secure automatic promotion along with table toppers Burnley.
