Newcastle United in for €35m bargain move for ex Man City champ out-of-favour at Barcelona

Newcastle United could look to bolster their squad with a Champions League experience and Premier League winner from Barcelona.

A confirmed place in the Champions League has added fuel to the fire of transfer rumour surrounding Newcastle United.

The Magpies have invested wisely since the Saudi takeover in October 2021 but will be looking to bolster their squad ahead of the European step up next term.

Here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Newcastle United.

Newcastle United linked with Manchester City title winner

Newcastle United could boost their forward options this summer by securing a cut-price €35m for Barcelona man Ferran Torres.

The Spaniard has been in and out of the Catalan side this term under Xavi and, despite wanting to stay and fight for his place, it is thought he could be tempted away by the prospect of Champions League football.

Of course, the Magpies have secured that goal this season thanks to Monday night's 0-0 draw with Leicester City and could use it as bargaining power with the 23-year-old.

The Spaniard also has the Champions League experience and dynamism that Howe will be looking to add to his squad when the window opens.

Eddie Howe has already ruled out splashing huge sums of money on single players this summer but has admitted that 'marquee' signings could be on the cards.

The manager said: "Yeah, there would be players we’d love to bring in that would be classified in that bracket, I’m sure.

"For me, it’s more about the role they can fulfil in the team, whether that’s viewed positively, or as a marquee signing, then great.

"I’m not in my mind thinking 'we have to have one of those players that ticks that box for the supporters'. As much as I’d love to do that, it’s about finding the right player in the right position who I think makes us better."

Despite Torres' experience, it is reported that Barcelona could let the star leave for considerably less than they paid in 2022.

The former Man City man signed for Barcelona for €55m but FootballTransfers understand the club would let him leave for €35m.

Torres started just two of the final nine La Liga matches in Spain but still picked up two goals and two assists in that period.

The versatile forward was part of Pep Guardiola's Premier League and Carabao Cup winning side in 2021 and the star also has La Liga and Supercopa trophies to his name from last year.

Torres has nine goals and three assists across his 28 Premier League appearances to date ad has 21 Champions League appearances that produced nine goals and three assists.

Eddie Howe has second thoughs on Kieran Tierney transfer

FootballTransfers also report that Eddie Howe is having second thoughts on a widely speculated move for Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney after some outlets even claimed the deal was 'imminent'.

The defender's injury record is cause for concern for Eddie Howe with a busy fixture schedule next year needing a big squad not hampered by injuries.

The Gunners are said to want £35 million for their out-of-favour Scotsman but the Magpies are reluctant to fork out more than £18 million for the star.

Manchester City are also said to be making contact over Tierney, with a potential swap deal with Joao Cancelo on the cards.
